The Beauty of Dutchtown, 58: Oregon Avenue Between Osage and Keokuk Streets

The houses above to the west of Oregon Avenue on Osage Street were probably all built at the same time, but it’s interesting to see how their fates have diverged over the last one hundred years.

The four-families on the west side of Oregon Avenue heading north are similar in appearance, with that early Twentieth Century brown brick with green accents that is so common.

Many are in good shape, but increasingly many more are seeing the signs of deferred maintenance from absentee landlords.

Then there’s in-fill with small Greek Revival houses next door to each other.

Turning around at Keokuk Street, we look at the east side of the street, where there are stout, late Romanesque Revival row houses with simple, severe façades.

But there are also plenty of Arts and Crafts bungalows in this area, as well.
