I took the opportunity to go up the Compton Water Tower last full moon, and it was well worth the climb. It had been years since the last time, and I wanted to see it at night.

The limestone glows in the illumination lights from below, and this view of the corner turret takes on a new look at night.

The interior of the turret is likewise cast in a different, fluorescent light at night.

Here is the top of the standpipe; to review, the three water towers in St. Louis were not created to store water, but rather to even out bursts in pressure from the old steam engined-powered water pumps.

The standpipe is still there, despite going out of service a century ago.

This horizontal pipe below was used to relieve water overflow if needed.

By the time I got back to the bottom, it was completely dark out, and I caught these views of the tower.
