Around the Greater Ville

There are always surprises, such as this cool Modernist ranch house in the Greater Ville, but most houses are the little shotgun bungalows that provided affordable homeownership in the early Twentieth Century.

The old open pit mines around here, converted to parks or to little Modernist enclaves, probably provided the employment for the occupants of these houses.

But now they’re being abandoned, just south of Natural Bridge Avenue.

And then there’s those ubiquitous four family apartments with the single front doors.

Those interested in learning more about my research of the Lemp family and their brewery can attend my lecture at the Missouri History Museum in conjunction with Johnny Rabbit’s Supernatural St. Louis, Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 10:30 in the Lee Auditorium.
